MI Uniform Power of Attorney Act: Updates Made in 2024

Mike Shelton is the managing shareholder at Ferguson Widmayer & Clark PC in Ann Arbor Michigan. Mike’s primary practice area is estate planning with a focus on estate and gift tax planning for high net worth clients. He also helps his clients and their advisor teams understand the administrative and income tax issues that arise when the plans have been implemented.
Mike is a Council member for the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan where he chairs the Legislative Monitoring and Analysis committee. Mike was part of the Council’s drafting committee for the Michigan Uniform Power of Attorney Act and is a contributing member for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
Prior to college and becoming an attorney Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army right out of high school and spent over 3 years as an infantryman parachuting out of planes and helicopters in Georgia, Alaska, Louisiana, and Thailand, before retraining in early 2001 to become a crew chief on Blackhawk helicopters.
